APM Clamped Target Designs Deliver More Discs With Less Gold Academy Precision Materials Motto: When It Comes To Gold; Simpler Is Better APM Signs Contract With PMC Mfg. & Machining APM Introduces A Complete Line Of Silver Plating Anodes Academy Precision Materials (APM) Now Offers Clamped Target Design For Silver And Gold DVD Or CD-R Production Academy Precision Materials offers considerable costs savings for customers using silver or gold CD-R and DVD targets. APM has developed a clamped design that reduces the amount of precious metal per target and eliminates the need for bonding. Both of these attributes lower costs and result in faster turnaround times for recycling spent targets. This design, does not inhibit target performance in the areas of thermal transfer, film uniformity or hardware. It allows for an increase in the number of discs coated and longer run times between target changes. This design can be retrofitted to most systems, because the overall geometry is the same as a composite assembly. A solid metal target is easier to handle and also lends itself to much simpler metal accounting protocols. This is no small matter when dealing in gold and silver. A spent solid target does not require refining, it can be remelted directly. The associated costs of bonding and backing plates are no longer a component of the target cost. This reduces the cost per disc coated accordingly. This new design has been in production with major CD-R and DVD manufacturers for over a year with outstanding results. APM Clamped Target Designs Deliver More Discs With Less Gold Academy Precision Materials (APM) has applied for a patent for their clamped design assemblies for CD-R & DVD targets. These designs minimize gold outside the eroded area, allowing for more gold to be applied where it is used. These designs eliminate the need for bonding and traditional backing plates. They also are very user friendly, allowing for very fast changeovers and target weight reconciliation. Target life and disc yield are both improved, the result is more discs per target with less metal required at a lower overall cost. All of these advantages are had without sacrificing target quality. Each target has the same fine, uniform grain structure that has been the hallmark of APM targets since we began business. Deposited film uniformity is very consistent from beginning to end of life. Academy Precision Materials Motto: When It Comes To Gold; Simpler Is Better An old saying that takes on new meaning with Academy Precision Materials (APM) new target designs for DVD and CD-R. APM has once again provided their customers with significant improvement in target performance and reliability. APM has developed several patent pending clamped target designs that are a direct retrofit to existing composite target systems. These new designs have been in production with major CD-R and DVD manufacturers for over a year with outstanding results. Each design has less gold in areas that are not sputtered. The targets are fitted with a clamping system that adds rigidity and strength but is not exposed to the plasma. Thicker targets can therefore be employed with a corresponding increase in target life as a result. Simple concept, but it works. Because the targets are not bonded, they can be remelted directly for reuse into new targets. This improves customer metal management and accountability. This design approach is applicable to all precious metal targets for DVD, CD-R. and high volume CD Audio. APM Signs Agreement With PMC Mfg. & Machining Fine Silver Anodes
